Great Horned Owl

Oct. 14
This week we've admitted a Sharp-shinned Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Red-tailed Hawk and Mourning Dove. Here is a picture of the Great Horned Owl just before getting re-hydrated with fluids. This bird hatched this year. We hope it will be eating on its own soon.

The Game Commission got called about a injured Bald Eagle. When the officer arrived at the scene, he found a lovely young Red-tailed Hawk needing help. The bird was brought to us and is being treated for a broken humerus (wing bone).

This young mourning dove was recently admitted. It is responding well to treatment for a head injury.

Note:
This precious female mourning dove has been released! Sometimes we don't really know if a bird is male or female, but with mourning doves, the females have a pink-ish color around their neck and males have a blue-ish neck color. From the color we know this is a female. She flew down a ravine and out of sight when first let go, but now has been sighted with some other doves that live in the area. Happy day!
