Record Number of Eagles Treated

For the first time ever, Tamarack treated five Bald Eagles in one year.  Typically we have admitted one every year or two. Since eagle population in northwest Pennsylvania have grown, this trend of increased admissions is likely to continue.  We appreciated the heroic efforts of Pennsylvania Game Commission officers who went far beyond the call of duty to retrieve and bring Eagles to the Center.

This year we realized our vision of having Eagles and other large birds of prey acclimate and build up their flight stamina in our huge flight building sponsored by the Greenleaf Corporation  and Bailey Wildlife Foundation.

We are thankful to have the expertise of Dr. ken Felix, Dr. Erika Rundman and staff from Glenwood Pet Hospital, Dr. Jamie Lindstrom and staff at Northview Animal Clinic and Dr. Erica Miller from Tri-State Delaware to help us with diagnosis and treatment.  Much credit and thanks is give to those volunteers and assistants who helped with the care of the Eagles during their stay at our Center: Amy Albrecht, Nancy Thall, Carol Holmgren, Care, Jack and Jessica Kerlin , and Marian Morton.

As we look ahead to 2008, the board of directors will be gathering in January for a visioning meeting. The focus of this meeting is to determine the direction for Tamarack for the next five years. Stay tuned for more!
